Heated Wing Mirrors.

Hi all,

I've just had my Galaxy serviced (40k) and one of the things that I asked the dealer to look at was the heated wing mirrors that don't defrost. They agreed to look at them and rang me during the day to tell me that the drivers one had a fault but the passengers was fine. (niether work!). They quoted

my mk1 has heated mirrors and not stating the obvious they only work when the heated front screen is on so assuming you have a heated screen they should work

So your Zetec should have them only the 01 LX doesnt have them

They are linked into the heated rear screen

Yes, linked to heated rear screen and IIRC the heating elements or pad is on the rear of the glass unit and not part of the mirror itself. Basic check would be to take the mirror housing cover off (I have a car-port post that does the job just fine if you hit it in just the right place) then stick a multi-meter across the terminals. Check for voltage when rear screen on and off, and also check resistance of the heater.

I thought all Galaxy's had DOOR mirrors ? and heating if fitted was operate by the REAR screen not the front screen heating.

Rear heater does mirrors front heater does washer jets if fitted There is a stick on heating pad on rear of glass

the glass on the back has an element with two terminals that come from the car. plug them on and the mirrors heat up.

I have heated washer jets (I fitted them) and they work! but I dont have a heated front screen (yet! the parts are sitting on the desk beside me :lol: ) my heated jets are controlled by the rear heated screen along with the mirrors

on all models MK1 and MK2 according to the spec sheets in the brochures you can only get heated jets as standard if you have a heated front screen! or go for the winter pack or luxury pack on the MK1's

on MK2's heated mirror's, front screen and jets are standard across the range apart from the on the Zetec which gets manual adjustablenon heated mirrors :blink:

I have heated washer jets (I fitted them) and they work! my heated jets are controlled by the rear heated screen along with the mirrors

How did you go about fitting the heated washer, aand how much did the conversion cost approx. As this a thing I was thinking about doing to my Sharan (has got the heated screen , but not sure about the mirrors

There isn't one (well, not on my Jan 2001 Ghia anyway)

It seems that the later models do not get it :( I cant find it on the latter models wiring diagram but it shows up on the earlier model's diagram's in the Courtesy Lamps section

on MK1's it's behind the bonnet latch on the bonnet, it's the same light as used for the foot well illumination, the switch is located on the bonnet's hinge mech,the thing that looks like a candle snuffer :) the same switch is used for the factory fitted alarm
